eyeson is a web based cloud service which works with WebRTC web browsers for the desktop. Desktop client software installation is not needed. Mobile apps are available for iOS and Android.

In general all browsers can be used, but not all browsers allow the full feature set – especially audio and video communication. WebRTC compatible browsers are needed to allow audio and video communication. We recommend to use Google Chrome – which allows the full feature set including desktop sharing. Also Firefox can be used but does not allow desktop sharing. When you receive a webinar participation link you can participate with all web browsers.

eyeson provides mobile apps for Android and iOS. You can use the eyeson mobile apps standalone as a communicator with audio, video, chat, pictures. Connect easily with your e-mail or use your favorite social media account to connect. When you use the mobile apps in combination with the eyeson web features you can use it for meeting and webinar participation. Eyeson web features have a responsive design so that you can use it on a mobile browser. The mobile apps are intended to use for real time communication.

Eyeson is a WebRTC / SIP based system and the eyeson communication clients – web browsers and mobile apps – connect to the eyeson server and cloud infrastructure and establish different connections on different ports and protocols for registration, call signaling and real time audio / video streaming. The following block diagram shows the dependencies to outline the eyeson communication infrastructure.

The VisoCon core video technology provides a single stream transcoding multi speaker video streaming unit (conference server) which is a virtual meeting room instance started in the cloud on demand when a meeting is started.

All connections are SSL/TLS encrypted or in case of audio/video-streams protected by DTLS/SRTP.

One of the advantages of the single stream technology from the network administration point of view is, that each client only receives one stream – independent of the number of participants in a meeting. So the conference is reduced to a P2P call from the clients point of view.

ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR THE USE OF EYESON

For each communication client a minimum bandwidth of 1.5 Mbit/s for upload and 1.5 Mbit/s for download shall be available. The bandwidth required needs to be multiplied by the number of simultaneously active clients in the same network. E.g.: If 2 clients are connected to the same network at the same time, the needed minimum bandwidth is 3 Mbit/s upload and 3 Mbit/s download. It is recommended to allow preferred traffic for real-time communication connections.

Packet loss in the network connection during active communication between the communication clients shall be less than 2%. Note: Higher packet loss than 2% can cause pixel errors, frozen video images and in worst case connection loss. Video connection algorithms additionally use packet loss information to downsize video quality in order to keep the video connection active with lower bitrates and resolutions running with lower quality.

Jitter in the network connection during active communication shall be less than 400ms.

The CPU usage of the used hardware platform shall be less than 80% (maximum) during an active connection. Note: Higher CPU usage than 80% can cause pixel errors, frozen video images and in worst case connection loss. Video connection algorithms use CPU usage values also to downsize video quality in order to reduce CPU usage with lower rates and resolutions running with lower quality.

The Internet connection shall allow direct UDP communication between all real-time streaming system components.

The network environment shall be configured in a way that a TCP proxy connection is NOT needed.

The eyeson communication software additionally supports TCP and UDP TURN relay streaming connections, but this causes a deviation from ideal real-time communication conditions. For this reason, the requirement is that TCP and UDP TURN RELAY connections shall be avoided by network and firewall configuration as far as possible.

  • The eyeson solution is built on rock solid encryption technologies as used in online-banking and e-commerce systems.

  • VisoCon does not store or analyze audio and video and does not transmit it to 3rd parties.
  • When the recording feature is activated, the recorded audio/video data and content is highly protected.
  • Recordings can only be initiated, administrated and deleted by the moderator of a videomeeting or webinar. Video chat communication will never be recorded.

Video meetings and webinars do have almost the same feature set from the usage of the moderated conference and presentation features point of view. The following table shows the important differences – in the way how users participate. So it depends on your intended event which option covers your needs. Technically speaking a webinar additionally broadcasts a video conference to make a multispeaker conference with presentation available to additional passive clients watching the webinar passively.

Eyeson for Internet Explorer, Safari and so far MS Edge is mainly intendend to allow passive webinar participation by opening an eyeson webinar invitation link. You can watch the live webinar, replay recordings, chat actively e.g. if you have questions and watch live slide presentations of the webinar.

IE, Safari and so far MS Edge do not support WebRTC. You can use the IE, Safari or the MS Edge browser functionality for video meeting / webinar administration and scheduling, creating landing pages for your webinars and meetings, document management and passive participation in a webinar. Google Chrome or Firefox is needed on the desktop – or the eyeson mobile apps on your mobile device – if you want to participate actively in video meetings, webinars or P2P calls.

You can use the mobile browser functionality for user registration, invitations and meeting / webinar administration and passive participation in a webinar. We recommend to use the eyeson mobile apps on your mobile device. Eyeson web features have a responsive design so that you can use it on a mobile browser.

Actively at the same time 4 video and additional 6 audio positions can be used in a video meeting or webinar. With the moderator functions you can add every user in the active conversation on demand. Dependent on your license this allows to have:

Every participant can participate actively if the moderator applies it and the participant is connected with a WebRTC compatible browser or using the eyeson mobile app. Please take care that your participants are not connected via https proxies inside a company infrastructure. Take care that the internet connection provides sufficient bandwidth for video communication. Please contact your IT administrator for the application of the needed network environment requirements if you experience connectivity issues.

Participants for video meetings or webinars receive invitations per email. You can invite people in your meeting settings with the integrated invite tools or just copy the public link to your emails. When the link is opened in a browser the landing page for the video meeting or webinar is shown where users can JOIN with email as a guest or can use also existing social media accounts.

If you want to invite somebody to a P2P call you can send a direct call link. This is supported in the mobile apps with an “add contact” function or on the website integrated with the user search so that you can easily invite not-registered users by email. Your own personal call link is shown in your account settings. You can copy paste it and send it with your email client or use the integrated invite tool in the contacts menu. This tool also sends this link automatically, you just need to enter the email address. When a user opens the link, your eyeson contact info is displayed and the user can connect to you. As soon as confirmed you find each other in your contacts.

When you use eyeson in a WebRTC browser you are online and reachable for calls as long as you have the browser open and you are logged in. A better way to be reachable is to use the mobile apps. With the mobile apps you are always online, also when the app is not running. You only need to get it from your app store for free, log in and allowed PUSH notifications.

P2P video conversations cannot be recorded on eyeson. You need to do a recorded video meeting with e.g. two participants instead to have this conversation inside your managed infrastructure on eyeson available in order to record it.

In the header bar of eyeson you always find an icon that you can click. A test screen opens where you can check your local setup at any time. Make sure that the green mic level shows a reaction when you talk into your microphone. Click on “Test Sound” to check if you hear a sound on your speakers or headset. Make sure that you use this tool before you go into a meeting or webinar as speaker. This tool is only available on WebRTC compatible browsers.
